This petition can be found on the Lower North Shore from Kegaska to Blanc-Sablon at the local stores for ease of access to those who wish to sign in support. This is what it states:
Petition to restore decision-making powers regarding medical services for the population of the Lower North Shore to the Centre de Santé de la Basse-Côte-Nord
Considering the Plan to implement the necessary changes in the health care system, launched on March 29, 2022, by the Government of Quebec to provide greater accessibility to health care and extensive decentralization to provide better service;
Considering that the Lower North Shore is a remote and isolated region far from major centres,
with no road link to the rest of the province, patients from the region must travel on a regular
basis off the territory to access health services;
Considering that the population of the Lower North Shore, with an English-speaking majority,
estimated at 5,000 people, including approximately 1,700 Indigenous persons, is spread over
fourteen (14) vulnerable and isolated communities 375 km along the Gulf du St. Lawrence, which
is a major issue in terms of transportation and logistics, impacting adequate access to health and social services;
Considering that the health and social services essential to the population of the Lower North
Shore have not been adequately met since the transfer of administration to the CISSS de Baie-
Comeau, decisions made do not take into account the specific needs of the Lower North Shore;
Considering that the transfer of decisions associated with essential health and social services to
the CISSS de Baie-Comeau; there is an absence of local administrators who aware of the specific
needs of the region;
Considering that there is a lack of human resources and constant transition of human resources
within the CISSS resulting in administrators having a lack of understanding of the LNS realities;
We, the signatories, ask the Government of Quebec to restore decision-making powers regarding
medical services for the population of the Lower North Shore to the Centre de Santé de la Basse-Côte-Nord.
CFBS has been told that this petition will be presented to Kateri Champagne Jourdain, our Member for Duplessis in the National Assembly of Quebec, during a meeting with the MRC and local mayors on Aug 31st in Blanc-Sablon. More to come ......
